Partner and Society Grants

A number of travel grants to attend the FENS Forum 2022 are offered by FENS member societies. Each organisation will have different eligibility criteria and deadlines for application. Please check the links that will appear over time below for the details, as each organisation has different eligibility criteria and deadlines for application.

Please note that only one grant per individual will be awarded. Some grants may be in the form of reimbursed registration and/or abstract submission fees; an individual cannot benefit from two grants even if one is for travel and the second one is for a reimbursed fee.

To support the attendance of scientists with children at the Forum 2022, FENS will provide a limited number of childcare grants. FENS wishes to thank Omicron-Laserage and the FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence (FKNE) for making the Childcare Grants initiative possible.

Successful applicants will receive up to 400 Euro which can be spent flexibly on extra childcare at home, travel of kids and carers to the Forum, or travel of a carer to your home for childcare during the Forum.

All attendees (students, postdocs and PIs) with dependent children are eligible. All applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by mid-June.

Please note there will be no dedicated rooms for children in the Forum venue.

The Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute and FENS are offering a Science Writer Fellowship of up to EUR 2,500 to cover the travel, accommodation and daily expenses at the FENS Forum 2022 in Paris, France. The volunteer would also receive a free press registration. The Chen-FENS Science Writer would ideally be someone with a neuroscience background and demonstrable interest in science communication.

The Chen-FENS Science Writer will be present on site in Paris from 9 to 13 July 2022 and support the FENS Forum Press Office during the event while receiving practical guidance, advice and mentorship.

The selected fellow would prepare a 3-page report on the FENS Forum Brain Debate “Building and understanding brains: How can AI research inform neuroscience?” on 9 July 2022 to be published on the TCCI and FENS websites and provide onsite support to the Forum Press Office for the duration of the Forum. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates interested in developing skills in writing, science communication and experience with the media. The Chen-FENS Science Writer will be selected through a competitive application process.

You would need to send a cover letter describing why you would like to be a Science Writer at the FENS Forum, and include your CV with emphasis on any previous relevant experience in the area of science communications.

The deadline for submitting applications is 16 May 2022.

Selected applicants should be available for a phone interview at the end of May 2022.

EBBS is offering 5 travel awards (1 for post-docs and 4 for PhD students) to attend our meeting the FENS Forum 2022 in Paris in July.

Award winners will receive a €500 bank transfer after the meeting as well as a special EBBS Travel Award Certificate. Travel awards will only be made to people attending the FENS forum in person.

All applicants should be EBBS members at the time of application, and should not have previously received an EBBS travel award (for a previous FENS Forum or an EBBS meeting). Applications should include:

  • A copy of the poster abstract identical to the one which will be submitted to the meeting. The applicant must be the first author on the abstract.
  • A one page CV.

Applications should be sent to the Secretary General of the EBBS (Alex Easton, secretary@ebbs-science.org) by the end of Sunday 20th March 2022

Student and early career BNA members can apply for up to £250 to support attendance at the Forum.

Eligibility criteria:

  • you must be an undergraduate, postgraduate, career starter or Early Career Researcher member of the BNA
  • you must have been a member for at least the last 6 months OR your application must be supported by a BNA Full member
  • you must have already registered to attend the 2022 FENS Forum
  • you must have submitted an abstract, as first author, for a poster presentation at the 2022 FENS Forum
  • you must NOT have received a BNA bursary for attending a previous FENS Forum

The International Behavioural and Neural Genetics Society (IBANGS) has established a travel award of $500 to assist trainees hoping to attend FENS in order to encourage and promote the mobility of young scientists.

Travel Stipend Details:
In order to be eligible, applicants must be or become an IBANGS member and must be currently enrolled in a Ph.D. or M.D. training program, or in a post-doctoral position.

Partner Society Grants

In association with the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), Proteintech is proud to support researchers by offering 2 x €/£500 travel grants to attend the 2022 FENS Forum meeting in Paris, France. Open to researchers in the UK and all of Europe.

The travel award is open to PhD students, lab managers and post-docs based at an European university or research institution and awards €/£500 to two attendees to assist with the cost of registration, accommodation and travel to Paris, France. The two most interesting and innovative abstracts will be selected by a panel of scientists for the prize award.

Entry Opening: 21st February 2022
Entry Deadline:  31st March 2022

The winner will be announced on the 30th April 2022.
