Microscopy advancements have been paving the way for scientific discovery and supporting researchers in better understanding how the nervous system works. This satellite event will focus on Open Source Microscopy and its impacts for research and education. Namely how implementation of such tools and techniques in modern research units promote science accessibility and improve data reproducibility.
The day will be split into two main sessions:
– A morning session with hands-on activities, where participants will be introduced to three major Open Source Hardware microscopy projects that have been fully developed and used for both education purposes and advanced, on-field research. Participants will then have the opportunity to select one of these projects, and learn how to conceive, build and operate an Open Science microscope
– An Afternoon session dedicated to a series of talks by our invited specialists sharing their views on OS microscopy, latest developments and experience in scientific research and education.
This event will be open not only to neuroscientists, but also to members of the local research and academic communities, as this will enrich discussions and bring awareness of Open Source hardware to more people around Paris.
We hope that by the end of the day, participants get a full picture of the state of the art for Open Hardware microscopy and how systematic access to advanced science tools in education will support and expand the research minds of tomorrow.
